Arkansas House passes bill to classify gender-affirming medical care for youth as medical malpractice

April 10, 2025 2:10 pm

REP. MARY BENTLEY (file)

The Arkansas House passed a bill that would allow medical malpractice lawsuits against health professionals who provide gender-affirming care to a minor. The bill would allow patients or their families to bring lawsuits up to 15 years after the patient turns 18.

That bill now goes to the Senate side for consideration.

Rep. Mary Bentley (R-Perryville), the bill’s sponsor, said doctors should return to a “watch and wait” approach for treating minors with gender dysphoria, a method the American Academy of Pediatrics calls “outdated and harmful.”

Bentley spoke for nearly seven minutes, mostly sharing fake statistics, lies and fearmongering about transgender people.

You don't need to be a doctor to worry about children being given life altering treatments before they are of any age to understand the consequences and give informed consent.
