GOP fast-tracking election bill despite veto threats from Gov. Hobbs

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Republican lawmakers passed a bill on Wednesday they say will speed up election results despite veto threats from Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.

The GOP plans to send House Bill 2703 to the governor on Monday, giving her five days to sign, veto or allow the measure to pass into law without her signature.

The proposal would eliminate dropping off early ballots on Election Day, a practice election officials blame for Arizona’s long vote count.

Following an election, Arizona typically takes up to two weeks to finish tallying up all the votes.

It’s incumbent upon the states to ensure the will of the people is expressed no matter how long it takes.
