Jeff Flake
Former Senator (R-AZ)/Former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey
Senator Lindsey Graham, a foreign policy hawk and a stalwart of the Republican Party, passed away on Saturday at the age of 71. A former critic of Trump, Graham became one of the President's strongest allies. He also strongly backed the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. Graham often crossed party lines to secure bipartisan agreements. His latest proposal, announced just last week, was a sanctions package on Russian oil. But no such agreement is on the horizon for Iran. The U.S. resumed attacks on Iranian targets over the weekend, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is grinding to a halt, oil prices are rising, and the ceasefire is crumbling. Jeff Flake, a former Republican Senator from Arizona, used to work alongside Senator Graham but held significantly different views on President Trump. He joins the show to discuss.
REPORT: VIOLENCE IN THE WEST BANK
It's been one year since the death of Saif Musallet, a Palestinian American killed by Israeli settlers in the West Bank while visiting relatives. Musallet's father, seeking closure, has returned to the site for the first time in a year. But his journey quickly turned dangerous as armed Israeli settlers ambushed and attacked his convoy, facing few consequences. Jeremy Diamond has this report from the occupied West Bank.
Rose Horowitch
Staff Writer, The Atlantic
As we endlessly scroll through TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, our attention spans are declining and fewer people are making the effort to pick up a book, according to a cover story in The Atlantic. Reporter Rose Horowitch argues that we're heading into a post-literate era. This presents a particular problem for educators and young Americans. College students are reportedly having difficulty comprehending texts that once were considered standard reading. To discuss all this, Horowitch joins the show from New York.
Doreen Dodgen-Magee
Psychologist and Author/Domestic violence Prevention Advocate
Homicide rates in the U.S. are at an all-time low and yet the numbers of deaths by domestic violence have stayed persistently high. Psychologist Doreen Dodgen-Magee says these crimes are predictable and preventable. Following the painful murder of her sister-in-law and her nieces, Dodgen-Magee spent the last three decades advocating for more protections against domestic violence. She speaks to Michel Martin about what policymakers can do to intervene. The conversation contains references to topics that may be found disturbing, such as rape and familicide.

Apparently, the show was on a break for the holiday last week. I feel silly for not being able to figure that out. 🙃
