Related: About this forumMy friend, Jim Rotondi, has died.
Great guy, great player...We went to school together and hung out and played a lot.
He moved to New York after touring with Ray Charles, and later across the pond to Graz to teach.

(12,447 posts)It's one of those things were you think there's always going to be time to get together with someone you haven't seen in a while, but fate has other plans.
I was always happy for him. He won at life...doing what he loved, writing, playing, and releasing his own albums...not to mention finding and marrying a sweet French girl.
See you on the other side, Jim.

(96,863 posts)Talented musician and a great loss to all who knew or will ever hear his music. The music will live on until there are none to hear.

(12,447 posts)We couldn't understand how he got so good growing up in Butte Montana. (Not much of a jazz scene there!)
Some people just have "it".

Ripped a piece of me out.
So sorry you are experiencing this loss also.
The music you posted is fabulously well played. What a loss to the music community.
Condolences to you, his family and friends.

(12,447 posts)Fortunately, he left behind a lot of good music, and some excellent students to continue to carry the torch.

(72,674 posts)Fortunately, all the musicians that I knew who made it big are still alive. Most older than me!

(12,447 posts)It's scary getting to that age when people I know..my age, and even younger...start dropping.
Makes me want to take better care of myself.
