But I am having trouble enjoying it after its use in an episode of Outlander. In that episode, Claire, the main character, is subjected to numerous sexual assaults and enters into an out-of-body experience where she is mentally transported from the 18th century to her own time, the1960s, where this song is playing. (I don't know if the song is being "played" on an imaginary stereo within her self-created experience or is just used as the sound track of the scene.)

Given the brutal nature of the events experienced by the character, the producers can be credited with not making the scene graphic and more traumatic for the viewer than necessary. However, in one Youtube comment that I read, an actual survivor of SA took issue to the scene for "sanitizing" the trauma, or at least that is how I interpreted their comments.

It leads itself to a discussion of how such events should be portrayed in an entertainment medium. There is also the question of whether or not people who have experienced certain real-life traumas should avoid watching any form of "recreation" or if trigger warnings should be included with all such content.

The fact that I can't listen to the song now without feeling echoes of suffering layered beneath is a sign that emotional experiences can linger more distinctly in some peoples' minds than others. I wonder if the copyright owners of Never My Love have any regrets over allowing the producers of Outlander to use it on their show?
