American Pie is one of those songs that everyone is drawn to because it's a great song telling a great story.

This was always our family anthem, of sorts. It continued from my wife and I to our daughters, then to our grandkids. We all know the lyrics by heart and always join in on a sing-a-long whenever we hear it.

I recently invited my middle grandson to pick out an lp from my modest collection. Out of the 250 albums, he selected Don's American Pie albumn. While I felt the loss of an old "friend" I was so happy with his pick.
