The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell, here we go again
Winds nearby are at 100 mph, and we are in a tornado watch until 1:00 AM. Lights are flickering off and on. Just a month ago, we were hit by an EF2 tornado with considerable damage just seven blocks south of us. Two years ago we had to have our roof replaced due to massive hail damage.
The many joys of living in the Midwest...

(12 posts)He's been covering your area and others like crazy. He's a meteorologist and works with storm chasers.
He's currently live in the video below. Best reports you'll get =)

(17,747 posts)My situation is no where near as bad as yours, but I'm in south Texas. The winds this year have been unreal. Enough that it's scared me on several occasions. I don't know what it is - well, I do, in actuality because I am a firm believer in climate change - but I never remember being fearful of wind before. We've had quite a lot of superficial damage, and it's frustrating to just have to sit back and watch things be destroyed.
Your situation is much more extreme, and I can only imagine the stress you are feeling. I mention mine only to express an inkling of understanding of what I'm sure you are going through, and how my (much less) situation has created stress for our household. So you must be climbing the walls, and rightfully so.
I am sorry. I hope you remain safe and sound with no damages. Take precautions and take care. Please keep us updated.

* I don't mean to minimize your situation or be flippant about it. Just seems to me if we had actual, sane, intelligent leadership we could actually do something about climate change, instead of massive tax breaks to oil, gas and coal companies while gutting environmental regulations. Some changes, however minor, just may do something to mitigate these INCREASING natural disasters.
PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!!

(2,029 posts)It was wild here. The local TV stations were on the air nonstop for over six hours with weather coverage. We escaped a tornado, but I have no idea if there is any damage to the house and trees. I will have to wait until daylight to see what's what.
I am so very appreciative for the kind words of concern and support here. DU is really a family, and I am grateful for each and every one of you.
Much love, Susan
