(11,452 posts)I appreciate having such things pointed out. It's good to be reminded of the many ways in which what feels like a compelling narrative can be all or partly faked.

We were driving down the road on the way to school and saw this deer laying in the middle of the road lift her head as we passed by. Knowing it was still alive, we had to act immediately or she risked further injury. We pulled over and I started to direct traffic around her. Then a man in a box truck stopped, blocked traffic (creating a lane of safety), and offered to help rescue this deer. We tried to lift her but that was near impossible so we lifted her by her legs. We checked to ensure they were not injured before we did. She seemed to know we were there to help and not hurt her. We moved her to the side of the road. I looked her over to see if there were any major visible injuries to attend to. With no major visible wounds, I looked her in the eyes and said a prayer to ease her suffering. I explained to my kids that we have no idea of the outcome God has for her but at least we prevented further suffering in the line of traffic. Sometimes they recover if no internal bleeding. I brought my kids to school and returned 50 minutes later (as soon as I could). To my surprise she was no where to be found. I checked the surrounding neighborhoods and fields and could not find her. The woods were half a mile away. If you see my channel, I am constantly photographing wildlife. Hence I am excellent at spotting animals even in thick camouflage. People don't pick up deer on the side of the road for their freezer in our area (hunting is not allowed excepted a few designated areas). The lone coyote we have only comes around at night and it stays mostly in the woods. The deer was off on the side of a hill so it was barely visible from the road. Before I could call anyone, she was gone. In the past when I have talked to animal control, they ask to wait some time. Did she survive? I am not 100% certain but I believe she had a concussion and there is a good chance she made a full recovery. If I ever find her, very distinct markings on the head, I will post a follow up. Deer are all around in our sounding fields and neighborhoods.
