(20,197 posts)I'm only happy when it rains
I feel good when things are goin' wrong
I only listen to the sad, sad songs
I'm only happy when it rains
During the first several months of covid I was in hospitals, rehab and a nursing home. While there I wasn't allowed visitors or to go outside. I wasn't even allowed to open the window. Eventually, all I wanted was to feel the rain on my face so I could know I was alive. You don't miss it until it's gone.

(28,762 posts)I'm originally from Seattle, so living in the desert is very disheartening for me at times.

(20,197 posts)I've heard of the band but I've never heard them. At least I don't think so.
I like a lot of diverse music and that's a good one.

(28,762 posts)This one gained some notoriety from being used in the Bill Murray / Scarlett Johansson movie "Lost in Translation."
(The song preexisted the movie for at least a decade. It was not written for the movie)

(20,197 posts)They're videos are pretty MTV cliché as I prefer Live lip sync at least, but they have the sound.
I've going to explore. Thanx!

(28,762 posts)They each write and compose, and switch off lead singing, although Jim does most of the singing while William plays more guitar.
ETA:
I wanted to add this song. If you know the Pixies, Black Francis loved this song so much the Pixies did a cover of it.

(20,197 posts)Time was my friends thought I was pretty avant for listening to '90s alt rock. Now it's classic rock, one step above oldies... haha
I often judge a band on whether I would take a long drive while their album plays on the stereo. That rules out a lot of novelties, noise, and Yoko, but these guys pass the audition.

(28,762 posts)They fall under the broad movements often called, "Alternative" and "Post Punk."
They definitely qualify under the even broader category of "rock".
All I can say is that I love their noisy pop sound!

I think he did local stuff, too. But he'd fly to meet w the regional managers.
I, and my sister's refrain was "what did you bring us, daddy?!". 😄
I digress. Anyway, my dad was visiting the rep in Alberquerque, NM. The rep and dad got along well, and he and his wife hosted both my sister, then me; separate occasions for 1 or 2 nights years later when we each made a cross country trip.
Ok, more digression, Happy memories!
.
It was one of those years where they got a really good rain. The desert bloomed!!! The rep drove him around to see the flowers outside the (much smaller then) city. What a generous, and wonderful experience!
I'm a temperate clime NYC'r. I loved visiting Puerto Rico. Loved visiting the Rockies (via my cousin) outside of Denver.
And I love the high desert of Arizona!
The colors! It's sculpturalness! Two summer vacations in a row.
