The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo today I hit the big 7-0. Now I feel old. Lol
It's been quite an intrerestig day with 2 power outages, one during a zoom meeting. Complete with cell & internet outage.
Fortunately, the power is back up and the internet is finally repaired.
And the pizza I tried to order at 11 AM is finally ordered.
Whew...

(114,506 posts)You get to eat as much tuna, sword fish, and other sources of dietary mercury because while something is going to kill you, it probably won't be that.
Ditto trans fats in baked goods or anything else. Gonna kill somebody 20 years younger, but that ship has already sailed in our case.
I wouldn't suggest taking up smoking again if you've managed to quit. That can still ruin the rest of your life as it finished the COPD job and you have to fight for every breath. Not fun.
You can ignore the guilt boice when you pass the gym. Walking is best for us, along with maintaining as much flexibility as we can.
And a lot of things will stop bothering you completely, things you might have obsessed on when you thought you'd be around for anothe 30 or 40 years but which don't seem worth the bother when you think you can probably start counting your life expectancy on your fingers without taking off your shoes.
Happy 3 score and 10 birthday.

(37,549 posts)...and say, "Don't grow old," which when I thought about it, was actually advice to die young.
I outlived him, and am older than both my parents were when their hearts stopped beating. I'm pretty happy about that.
Now, when I wake up in the morning I find it interesting that I'm still alive.
I have lived long enough to recognize how often I've been a fool. There's great joy in that.
I certainly wouldn't want to be in my twenties again. They were a terrible time in my life, and I was even more of an asshole than I am now.
I live by the following adage attributed to Ingmar Bergman: "Growing old is like climbing a mountain. Your breath gets shorter but your views become more expansive."
Congratulations on having lived a long life.
