(1,490 posts)As a Cubs fan, I root for the National League, but it seems like the American League wins more often than not. Living in Michigan, I also root for the Tigers, my second favorite team.
For 46 years, I have dreamed of a Cubs/Tigers World Series. Could this finally be the year?

(42,960 posts)It hasn't happened before, and I consider Detroit one of the best baseball cities in MLB -- a workingman's town, and the ballplayers have sort of reflected that. I absolutely loved it when they won the 1984 World Series and àbout half the guys came out of the clubhouse, cllimbed on top of the third-base dugout and celebrated with the fans.

(1,490 posts)when the Cubbies were one game away from going to the World Series. Broke my heart. As soon as the Padres scored their first run in that game, I knew it was all over for the Cubs and I started crying.
I was happy for the Tigers, though.
Later on that year, one of the radio stations broadcasted a fantasy 7th game of the World Series between the Cubs and the Tigers. They entered stats from each team into a computer to determine who would've won. Harry Caray did the play-by-play for part of the game and Ernie Harwell did it for the other part. The Tigers won, of course, but it was still fun to listen to.
