(12,412 posts)It never stuck with me through the morning at all. If I had to eat it, I preferred oatmeal with raisins, or on the rare occasions we had leftover rice, warm rice with raisins and brown sugar.

(15,470 posts)I LOVED Grape Nuts!!! (with like a teaspoon of sugar) Like crunching down some sweet gravel...
I've wanted to buy some in my older years, but my teeth would probably rebel! lmao

(13,462 posts)My default breakfast nowadays is Kodiak protein oats with a teaspoon of Sugar in the Raw and frozen banana slices to cool it down but I keep Cheerios around for the occasional snack or meal substitute. To me, there is nothing more refreshing than Cheerios with skim milk. But I also like corn flakes, Rice Krispies and raisin bran. When I was a kid, my favorite was Cocoa Puffs but I tried them as an adult and could not handle the sweetness. Honey Nut Cheerios is an inedible abomination, BTW.

(401 posts)I loved Quaker Instant Oats of the maple and brown sugar variety.
Favorite cold cereal... Gosh there were so many. I haven't had cereal in 20 years, but if I could have just one bowl today, it would either be Crunchberry Captain Crunch or Lucky Charms.

(7,384 posts)Don't know how often Mom bought them, but it was just fun to cut them open a pour milk in the box.
Of those, I think Sugar Pops were my favorite.

(1,776 posts)my mother selected for us - Wheaties, Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Raisin Bran, Chex, Cheerios, Life, Mother's Oats, and Cream of Wheat. As a treat, she would occasionally permit my sisters and I to indulge in the sugary temptations of the Kelloggs Variety Pack, Captain Crunch, Trix, Sugar Smacks, or Quisp.

(1,131 posts)These days, I buy the plain bran flakes and raisins separately.
The raisins in the pre-made stuff have the texture of pea gravel.

(1,516 posts)but i wasn't a real breakfast eater as a child (still am not, often won't have anything more than coffee until I've been up an hour or two).
Sweet cereals- capn crunch, apple Jax, raisin bran, that kind of stuff. Hated oatmeal, though I tried it several times, think it's a texture thing.

(333 posts)a favorite as an adult. Cold cereal as a child was usually Cheerios. Sometimes my mom would buy us the variety pack and I always tried to outmaneuver my sisters for the sugar pops. I dont usually eat cold cereal now, but if I get the urge, Ill get either Great Grains, Honey Bunches of Oats, or Golden Grahams. Hope you are having a good day, Deb!! 😊

(13,213 posts)We usually had boiled eggs and toast, though. My British grandparents' influence on my mother. We had egg cups and Mom would cut the toast in fingers.

(73,567 posts)My favorite cold cereal was, wait for it, Grape Nuts!
Probably because my dad liked them, but I noticed very young that they never got soggy. Crunchy until they were gone.
I always like corn & rice Chex right out of the box.

2nd eggs (any style) and the flesh of a pig, bacon, sausage, or ham.
Bread, toast or pancakes, on rare occasions.

(22,338 posts)Maaaaybe on a rare occasion Fruit Loops, or Pebbles; which we may have had staying over at a cousin's house, ans not ours.
I really enjoy Cream of Wheat/Rice as an adult. I'd often made it really thick. At the ALP I'm at we get it regular which is fine: wheat, rice, and ?farina. It's funny, while I enjoy herbed, and non-hot spiced foods, I love these bland breakfast foods.
Raisin Bran's ok.
I don't think we ever had hot cereal as a kid.
Oh, how could I forget, duh, various granolas as an adult!
There's what I call "granola dessert" which is Trader's Joe's Chocolate Granola! Yippie! 😄🥰

(572 posts)I make excellent cookies with Corn Flakes, too!
I like the occasional mash-up as well; mix Apple Jacks with Froot Loops, or Golden Grahams with Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
I like Crispix, too. That's my wife's favorite.
When I was very young, money was crazy tight for my family. My mother made us eat puffed wheat; she told us to add sugar, but no amount of sugar prevented it from tasting like cardboard. I was at least eight before I even tried a cereal which was advertised on TV.
