College was just one big hard thing for me - being a commuter student at the college I went to was not a good mix at all. Was always on the honor roll in high school. But one thing I remember was my English teachers short story essay tests. Only a few people in the class passed them! And I only passed once - and barely. Fortunately he was not that way with his other grading and I ended up with overall good grades. I think he was sneakily getting us ready for college work.

(833 posts)I changed high schools and moved to PA in the middle of my sophomore year. Trying to fit in at age 15 with a whole new group was difficult. Plus I moved from a rural agricultural high school to a city school. Culture shock! I like to think that I eventually landed on my feet and came out ok. But it was definitely hard for many months .

(65,704 posts)I went to a Catholic high school but still had some bullying - unbelievably most was in my senior year. It was more an annoying kind of bullying than anything - and the disciplinarian took care of it.

(31,094 posts)I got lucky and caught a relatively high number. A good school friend of mine got a "4." He withdrew from college the next day and reported for duty. As I remember, he made it home in good shape---a lot better shape than a cousin of mine, who came back from the war and ended up taking his own life. Wildly different times...

(13,474 posts)We wore wool blazers and had to climb up and down the stairs all day to get from one class to another, and there was no air conditioning. Fortunately, it was mostly cold weather during the school year.
