No Bagged Ice Here

The whole holiday weekend, stores starting putting signs on their door saying "No ice. Sorry for the inconvenience."
By yesterday afternoon I saw it at 5 gas stations, 4 liquor stores, 2 supermarkets, and 3 dollar stores.
Supermarket manager told me one of the ice company's big delivery trucks had a rollover accident on the interstate Thursday afternoon.
So, all those deliveries are lost, and the now are trying to rebuild inventory, plus they are one delivery truck short.
I'm sure that screwed up a lot of picnics & gatherings for the 4th.
I don't know if the driver was hurt or not. I hope not. I couldn't find anything on the local paper website.

I just found out why EVERYBODY is out of ice. Couldn't help myself from sharing it.
What awful timing. A cookout weekend!

They might only have 2 or 3 trucks for this region.
We're almost 60 miles from downtown Chicago.

We're much farther south & west. Our COO lived in Hinsdale and we went to a few Christmas marries at his house.
He lived in a very swanky area. 3 story house.

New big courthouse; a half-dozen nice restaurants, the minor league ballpark.
The casino, of course, is the big business, plus dozens of law offices.
Cop shop is still there, too.

Then, to The Slammers because of the prisons. They're part of the Frontier League.
Really nice ballpark, too.

... full-count on home with a commercial break. The stupid non baseball shit going on on the sidelines while there's a station break is crazy in a terribly bad way.

The beer was good and an almost affordable $7.50 or $8.00 for a nice pour.

The stupidest thing is baseballs solution to having turned an hour, hour and a half game into what is now three hours minimum. That solution is making a clock that alarms if the pitcher doesn't throw by a certain time. How many minutes will that save??

Don't get me started. I'm still a Cleveland Indians fan. I get the name needs to change - but the 'Guardians'???

I grew up walking distance from the bridge the 'Guardians' are on. To get there, one would have to go past the West Side Farmer's Market. One of my favorite smells with memory attached, is the smell of the produce venders' fires fed by breaking down empty crates and trimmings and bad fruit and veg. The fresh produce had the open air but covered portico's. In winter they'd hang pieces of canvas for some protection. I loved the smell of that.

...that rule changes have shaved over 32 minutes from each game.
When I was a kid, the Cubs had a pitcher named Bill Hand. When looking at the box scores of his games, it wasn't uncommon for the game time to be under 2 hours. Dude worked quickly! Jenkins too.
