I hope I die before I get old. Roger Daltrey of the rock band The Who has revealed that he is slowly going deaf and blind after turning 81 on March 1. The joys of getting old mean you go deaf. I also now have got the joy of going blind, Daltrey told the crowd at Londons Royal Albert Hall during a concert on Thursday, March 27, per Sky News. Fortunately, I still have my voice, he quipped, because then Ill have a full Tommy.
Tommy is the name of the main character from The Whos 1969 album-turned-rock opera of the same name. He is not only deaf and blind but also mute. This wasnt the first time Daltrey revealed hes going very, very deaf, blaming his condition as the result of his more than 60-year career as a rock and roll singer. Take your fking earplugs with you to the gigs, he told the crowd during another concert in Las Vegas in 2018, according to TMZ.
Daltrey has also discussed aging and death in more recent interviews, including one with The Times in January 2024.

(20,603 posts)When I say mild...it's in one ear, the lower end of a higher pitch range, and most importantly(!!!); not so loud, that it drives me batty. I've read it can.
So... what happened?
Went to see them play Tommy at rhe Filmore East. Fantastic show! Decided not to put tissues in my ears.
It was sooo loud. An acquaintance (another super Who fan) told my sister - that I was sitting in the worse place- sound wise! I was in the middle (left - right, and rows) of the top balcony. The sound was close to doubled bc; it came straight from the amps, and also bounced off the ceiling!
Both my ears rang, and hurt for 3 days! Then was left w the tintinutus in my left ear. I almost then always wore various ear protection for indoor shows!

(20,118 posts)I think the worst part is that you hear the ringing when you are trying to go to sleep at night. I get headaches, so I naturally want to protect my ears from loudness. But the truth is, most rock concerts are way too loud.
Sound of Metal is about a metal drummer who suddenly goes deaf. Its a good movie.

Headaches are no fun.
I get some tension ones since drumphf got in in Jan. Luckily they don't last long. And my BP is fine.
