I was so excited to have a $7 off coupon for my husband's Ensure which he takes for his diabetes...

I inadvertently picked up Glucerna, which had the same offer as the coupon. When I presented the coupon for Ensure, the checker took it and gave me the $7 off. When I got home, my husband said I got the wrong item so I am taking the Ensure back to the store.

My question is: why was the coupon not rejected and my mistake found?

I am going back to the store tomorrow with the Glucerna and my register receipt but I am wondering why my mistake wasn't detected by the cash register?

I suspected that this was the case but I was too tired and upset to look it up online. Thank you! CTyankee Feb 13 #4

"Ensure and Glucerna are both made by Abbott Laboratories. Abbott is an American health care company that also makes other nutritional products, including Pedialyte, Similac, and EleCare."
It might be possible that the coupon was valid for both products. But that's a guess.

The cashier has no control on a scanned coupon being accepted or denied.
Some can be entered manually but that usually needs approval of supervisor.
