Friday Night No-Drinking Post.

To my beloved Loungers: I’ve been sick all week, and am feeling a little better. But I’m staying away from alcohol until I feel 100% again.

Don’t let that stop you, and as Joe Biden would say “God love you”. Have a strong one for me, because right now, I’m feeling a little weak and fatigued.

I’ll reply if I can. Otherwise, talk amongst yourselves.

I love you all…

But that's because I'm a morning person. I always feel good after starting the day with some coffee and TV. Not up to 100% yet. Probably still a few more days. Thanks for the . That kind of thing always makes me feel better.

They seem to be working. There's a part of me that wonders if being this sick isn't due at least in part to thirteen years of overwork in an already stressful profession. Maybe I can get all the nasty stuff out of my system, and start my new job with a clean slate and a fresh outlook.

And it's helping me to sleep better. Better than I have in years, actually. That's probably down to all the medication I've been taking, though.

Got my birthday bottle of Lagavulin last week. Looking forward to cracking it and once again inhaling its campfire-y goodness. Also picked up my yearly bottle of Irish Cream. That will go well with the cold winter nights ahead.

See ya when I've reached drinking fitness...

We need you here.

I used to drink Philips screwdrivers - vodka, OJ and milk of magnesia. That was a long time ago.

I'll just lift an A and W cream soda in your honor.

How sweet.

I really hope I'll be better soon. This is a lot like when I had a kidney stone a couple of years ago. I was off work for a month. I spent the whole time stoned on Percocet, shuffling aimlessly from room to room in my bathrobe, clutching my little bag of medication. I felt old. I didn't like it.

This isn't quite that bad. As much as I complain about overwork in the clinic, I really do love the job. Getting in there, rolling up my sleeves, solving peoples' problems, making them feel better. I love my patients, and I miss them. I hope they're getting good care right now.

I'm humble enough to know that I'm not irreplaceable, but confident enough to know it will be a downgrade.

I never thought I’d be on someone else’s list.

That’s very humbling…
