(5,129 posts)and didn't think there would be anything interesting in this compilation. Boy, was I wrong! I think that they all had so much great dancing in them that sometimes what we see in this tape was something like a "throwaway" for these magnificent dancers, happening so fast in terms of plot and in the midst of all these big production numbers that it's easy to forget them. Thanks so much for posting this.

(5,129 posts)TCM recently showed a bunch of "colored" shorts featuring these two guys, who deserve every accolade we can bestow, but there were another dozen or so fabulous black dancers who unfortunately never made it onto the MGM screen. Every now and then, TCM or PBS has a special giving these guys the respect and awe they deserve. Worst of all I guess is the fact that Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire et al. studied their moves and outright copied much of their work. I think the Astaire number "Mr. Bojangles," intended I'm sure as an homage, is about the most insulting thing he could have done to Bill Robinson--whom I know from interviews was a man Astaire admired above all other dancers. Late in life, Astaire was an enormous fan of Michael Jackson's dancing, for what that's worth.

(25,351 posts)the tone of a movie and foreshadowing the plot is the dance at the gym in West Side Story. Competition dances between the two gangs end with Tony and Maria meeting for the first time.

(3,839 posts)the one with Marlon Brando and the Chief's daughter (his future wife in real life) dances for him. Also the sexiest dance scene ever too!
I never knew Christoper Walken was such a good dancer! Keep watching it gets better and better!
