The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy new Keurig died after less than a month. The associate at Costco told me a lot of the same model
are being returned. Even with my receipt she scanned its barcode to ensure that I bought it there. Apparently people are trying to return ones they purchased elsewhere that are out of warranty.
They only had the same model in stock so I got another one. Hopefully it lasts longer!
Just in case, I took out my old Cuisinart and bought some ground coffee.😁

(2,133 posts)now is able to look at all your purchases. They couldn't do that before. If an item is not on your record of purchases then you can't return it.

(29,155 posts)Keurig kinda wiggled its way into my life in the form of a gift. We thought wed just keep it around for kids to make hot chocolate or for when company comes and they might want a flavored coffee or maybe tea, but we started using it on the weekends when we were both home. My wife started using it every day, and our regular machine ceased getting used. I decided to start using the regular machine again, but that only lasted for a couple of months. One weekend, we made coffee using Keurig and havent looked back. Thats been about a year now. Its a safe bet that well replace our Keurig if it goes on the fritz. Its just too darned convenient.

(3,617 posts)Thats what I do. Using a Keurig is so convenient because I only drink one cup per day.

(27,158 posts)My sister and I make two separate pots in the morning because she drinks de-caff and I drink full caff. It's a waste of space on the counter.

(38,506 posts)a reusable pod but you have to rince the grounds out which clogs your drains. Why not a disposable coffee bag?

(2,748 posts)Aunt brought coffee bags from England. Apparently they are commonly used over there.

(29,155 posts)Yes, it costs more, but as I mentioned, convenience wins out. Im willing to pay that price, despite not loving the part about paying more.

(16,637 posts)because we don't have a break room with a sink to wash out the pot. I didn't realize they made pods for tea and we have one tea drinker who loves it. I've been experimenting with all kinds of pods and it's been fun to use. It's not used every day though and we recycle everything we can. Our big coffee drinker now works from home and I'd say there was much more waste when he was in the office!

LPBBEAR
(581 posts)and got rid of it after we realized how really wasteful and proprietary it is. Making coffee in little plastic cups is a really bad idea.

(17,782 posts)Your own grounds. But I think they changed that in later models.
I only have an old single cup machine I keep on a boat. I don't have space for a full size and pressing isn't practical. But even on that one I can use a filter basket.

(127,751 posts)I got a new Keurig recently (same model as the one mentioned in the OP, hope it keeps working!), and it came with a filter basket. I grind whole beans and use the filter basket, save the used grounds for compost.

(2,748 posts)But it sounded like a bulldozer, not a coffee maker. When it died (Also a short lifespan) I purchased a Clever Dripper Heat water, pour it in, and wait four minutes.
Spend those four minutes browsing DU.
Kurieg also is One strength fits all in other words - weak coffee.

It makes about 1/2 cup strong espresso which I dilute with boiling water to make a full mug of regular strength coffee. I use regular grind Columbian coffee, and it makes great coffee in about 3 minutes. No filters or other waste, just the grounds.
