The guy at the next register made sure to insist that he did not want anything resembling a vegetable on his burgers.
I'm ok with that. Not fanatic. I'll take the pickle.

Once I'm in charge that will be the law of the land. Then it'll be onto fixing climate change, curing cancer and booting out Republicans but not necessarily conservatives.

(27,912 posts)My choices - ketchup, stone ground mustard, a bit of purple onion, dill pickle slices, bacon (turkey), and, if I have it, a little bleu cheese.

every once in a while I will spring for some bacon.

(2,843 posts).....bread and butter pickle chips. Or again, swiss cheese, dill pickle slices and a little bit of sweet brown German mustard. Sometimes, if the burgers are really good and I'm hungry, I'll have a second burger just plain. In all cases on a bun lightly toasted.
I like sweet pickles too and really wonder why some folks say "I always eat dill pickles, can't stand sweet pickles" as if liking one precludes ever liking the other.
debM55 - Thanks for posting this. There are many discussions here on DU where some folk feel that they have to get their opinion in even when it doesn't really add much to a discussion (I've been guilty of this) so it's nice to have something really innocuous where everyone can get it out of their systems.

(33,643 posts)Grilled Rye (with a lot of rye flavor), grilled onions, melted cheese, 1000 Island dressing. Preferably 2 thin patties but one thicker one is okay too.
Or a Nation's cheeseburger (mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions) to which I'll usually add some Ketchup. They're so simple but there's something about 'em.
People from larger CA towns know about Nation's.
And of course an In & Out Double Double is always great, got that Au Jus flavor going.

(2,843 posts).....swiss cheese, so there is no real explanation why I never had one or made one until I was about 65 years old. First bite I almost broke down in tears. "Where have you been all my life?"

Used to be a cheddar slice only snob, but I'm coming around to American cheese (food).
I like onions, but they don't like me. So, they had to go.

(24,253 posts)or thin sliced raw red onion, Hellman's (?Best_____) mayo, romaine lettuce, a bit of salt & pepper.
Bacon is not a prerequisite but a fun addition from time to time.
ETA:
I'm sure swiss cheese, or blue cheese crumbles would also be very tasty!
All this on a bun (plain, or lightly toasted).

(10,902 posts)I slice tomatoes and place my lightly salted hamburger between two tomato slices instead of bread. I have non-celiac gluten sensitivity and I avoid consuming a high amount of carbs.
Last week, I placed 1/4 cup of Mexican blend shredded cheese on a heated frying pan and spread it out and flipped it over when it was ready. I used two of those fried shredded cheese as bread for my hamburger with some sliced kosher pickles in between.
Yum!

(9,605 posts)sauteed mushrooms and onions with garlic aioli and very crisp fries on the side. Chili's Bar and Grill has a good one.
Plain ol' mustard pickles, and onions.
If I were in Okla. City, it would be the Caesar burger at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler, or the Theta burger (BBQ sauce, pickles, and mayo). Their serving sizes were outstanding. Damn, now I'm hungry.

(9,083 posts)I'm not one for mayonnaise on my hamburgers, but to each their own. Having said that, the best hamburger I ever ate came from a Tastee Freez (which may have been a Southern regional franchise) in Hazelhurst, GA and had mayonnaise on it.
