Happy April. Power went out around midnight, heavy wet snow and high winds will do that. Freezing in the dark with 60,000 other people, but fortunately I have a spare battery pack to keep my phone charged or Id go mad

(58,785 posts)As long as they're charged they'll both also work under every blanket in the house.
Hope power's back up soon if not already.

(302 posts)Without electrical power (where I live), I would not have been able to send a message similar to yours, as I would have lost my router, Internet, TV, and landlines, plus both of my mobile phones. Also, I would not have been able to light my gas range, unless I had a box of those long(er) matches safely hidden away, somewhere (???).

(58,785 posts)for years, to the point that we haven't for a long time, and we're finally pushed to thinking of that also. For the same reason. And our little area isn't exactly high priority when thousands are without.

(302 posts)Some few times (in times gone by), I had to amble past a few of these on my way to work in a high-rise building. Never had to depend on one at home, but always gave them more than a passing glance, because they were just so durn cute. Maybe take a look...OR not?

(302 posts)This company was known as Capstone MicroTurbine in the past; and I worked for them as a (financial) contractor for nearly six months. Their products are quite amazing, but 'typically-not' for residential (home) use; however, you might find decent electrical power information at their website.
Now if you had a few neighbors willing to share costs AND interconnecting wiring was possible, then their smaller unit (although pricey) might become an option (?).
