The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI got my first pair of yoga pants
I'm in love!
The booth next to mine sells new items. I saw this pair of yoga pants, my size, Bonnie Brooks, a nice color, for $3.29. I wanted another pair of pants to wear around the house, so I got them. They fit great, look nice, lighter and softer than sweats. This does not mean that I'm going to start doing yoga

(71,080 posts)shouldn't you call them something else?
Maybe loungers, cuz that's what I'm doing

(71,080 posts)I'm lounging. And day-drinking. Just need a break from it all.

(22,084 posts)I must have earned the whole week, because that's all I did. Today, I'm energized. Maybe just wearing yoga pants got me in the zone.
Aristus
(71,080 posts)I think that's what most of we human beings are struggling so hard to do; find the zone, and stay in it.
It helps if we have each other...

(71,080 posts)I think human beings invented holidays as a way of saying: 'You know what? Time out! We need to step out here for a little while. Re-group; re-charge. Then we'll start all over."
Keeps us sane.
Alcohol helps...

(18,588 posts)Whats odd is its less than an hour from Hamilton but there isnt anyway to get there other then renting a car or a taxi. All of the tours are from Auckland which is 2.5 hours away. Ugh, makes for a long day.
The tour on the property is extremely well run. From beginning to end it was wonderful.!

(22,084 posts)in an old furniture store. The place is huge. The furniture store had divided some of the space into open rooms, I guess so you could get an idea of what different items would look like. My booth is in one of those spaces. The vendor next to me has all kinds of new retail stuff, which I can't help noticing.
Not the first booth I've had, but this one might be the best.

(16,598 posts)Unless you have done it, you can't understand the work involved in running that type of booth. You enjoy those plants 🙂
Marthe48
(22,084 posts)We had a little shop in the 70s, at that time set up at a few outdoor flea markets. Later, we had a booth in a place that closed, then a booth where we got ripped off pretty bad (thefts), so we left. This place has an inventory system, so the tags can't be switched. And lots of live cameras with multiple views, so things don't walk away.
I'm retired, and the work keeps me busy.
Are you still in the resale business?
Lochloosa
(16,598 posts)a really good friend in the late 80's and 90's. John was about 20 years older than me at the time and took me under his wing and showed me how to make money at a flea market. I only sold reclaimed items. I loved the hunt. Auctions, garage sales etc.
My parents spent the last 19 years of their lives traveling from festivals and flea markets selling. My step-father was a leather craftsman, so his stuff was always in demand. I still have a couple of his belts. Nothing like a good leather belt without stitching.
Marthe48
(22,084 posts)I didn't learn anything from him, but might be where I got this drive. I did meet an older lady who taught us about antiques, and we really embraced the whole field. I've never stopped learning something new. I miss going out to buy things, but if I feel like looking, I just dig through a box and find something I like.
When you say reclaimed, do you mean used, or used and discarded?

(16,598 posts)I figure if I like it someone else will.
After a few years I evolved to mainly selling albums. At one time I had the second largest collection of albums in Tallahassee FL. Only the used record store in town had more.
I could buy a box of albums for a few dollars and resale them for a couple of bucks each. It was a volume business. There was usually a couple of gems in the box that I would make good money on. I built up a good cliental. I once came across a bootleg Rolling Stones Live collection from Germany. Sold it for 100 bucks. I still have some of my better ones.
Marthe48
(22,084 posts)I like to keep anything before 1920. When I was collecting, I'd joke that I wanted a fantasy auction, at least one example from every category in a Kovel's price guide. lol
I have a few albums. My brother would buy an album and play it once to record onto cassette, and then put the album away. When he died, I got his stuff. And others from sales and such. I'm glad to see that vinyl is getting popular again. Some of the other vendors have a few albums on display. Lots of good memories from growing up

(1,109 posts)Love mine and wear them a lot. Even under my choir robe
with heels. Need to look somewhat dressed up. 😄 Professionally I wear them one day a week when I teach my yoga class. Other days - pretty much yoga pants unless it is cold outside - jeans are warmer when walking the dog.
Yoga pants get a bad rap but that is usually because someone needs a slightly larger size and maybe a longer top to cover her backside. Especially if the backside has seen a few trips around the sun. Mine is going on 75 trips - tunic tops are my friends.
Wear what is comfortable and what makes you happy my DU friends. Life is too short to do otherwise.
Marthe48
(22,084 posts)The pants are the first new clothes I've bought in a few years. I started losing weight in 2019, and last shopped for clothes in March 2020. I don't know what size I wear, so I haven't shopped online. I still haven't gone clothes shopping, but I should. The pants were so convenient!

Like yoga pants.

(22,084 posts)When I go out, I wear some leggings from the 90s that fit me again, and some dressy pants. I feel like Rip van Winkle

(76,190 posts)One of the teenage girls walks her dog in the neighborhood in the summer, occasionally wearing sweatpants on the bottom and just her Victoria Secret bra on top.
So I guess we could make our sweatpants look quite up to date if we wanted to do so.

(22,084 posts)I attended for about a year when they offered it on Zoom. There was some yoga. When the fitness center stopped offering the classes on Zoom, I didn't start going in person. I didn't forget the exercises, and do the yoga type stretches once in a great while
I'm glad you enjoy doing yoga. I have not yet found activity I like.

(5,375 posts)Its what I wear to work in the kitchen. They are so comfy, easy to move in, and inexpensive to replace when I get too many bleach and grease spots on them. The bootcut is perfect over my shoes, as well.
