It makes no sense to me.

(27,157 posts)The lyrics certainly don't have a Christmas reference.
Lyrics
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver-white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver-white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

(22,008 posts)Stores and media outlets that play Christmas music bend over backwards to play 'seasonal music' rather than Christmas carols. If I hear the lineup with Jingle Bells, Holly Jolly Christmas and (God help me) The Chipmunk Song, once, I hear it every house, every day from Thanksgiving to Christmas Day.
I grew up listening to traditional Christmas songs like O Holy Night, Silent Night and We Three Kings. I don't know when Christmas music became popular, but you hear more of those, and seasonal music than you do the traditional songs.
I hardly hear MY Favorite Things at any time of year, but with lyrics like 'warm woolen mittens', 'brown paper packages' and others scattered through the song, I can see where some exec would say, "Yeah! That says Christmas without saying Christ!"
I'm just glad when I can stop playing my CDs and get back to the radio, which is the day after Christmas.

(7,698 posts)Im guessing its the sleigh bells, snowflakes, and silver white winters, that get it over the christmas song threshold

Similarly, some people have Die Hard as a Christmas movie (not me). (thread hijack. were going to Argentina)

Not something I think of as "in the holiday spirit."
YMMV
I've never seen Die Hard, so I can't comment on that.

military rule. Marie brings that love, fun and creativity into their world and their father's. If you have every read the true story of the Von Trapps, Marie was a bitch.

(17,386 posts)just like "Jingle Bells" isn't a 'Christmas' tune either. Sometimes you need something new to fill another of the 500 new 'Christmas music' cd's & albums every year........

(51,467 posts)deals with sensory things concerning winter.-smells and food, the feel of brown paper wrapping on gifts, feel of snow on the nose and eyelashes. When I watch the movie or hear the song, it makes me want to sing and dance. I saw the movie when it first came
out with my girl scout troop. It wasn't a Christmas move. If I remember correctly, we went down to Pittsburgh to see it in March. It makes me feel happy.

(3,837 posts)came out in December I think or late fall. I remember going to see it with friends that year. It was snowing. Magical.
