However, fans are still waiting for Martin to finish writing the books Game of Thrones was based on the sixth book, The Winds of Winter, has been anticipated since the previous instalment was published in 2011. Martin has repeatedly cited both his workload and travel as preventing him from finishing what will be the penultimate book in the series.
Martin is also working on a Game of Thrones Netflix film, and Broadway play. The last Game of Thrones book, A Dance with Dragons, was published in July, 2011. Martin has promised the sixth, The Winds of Winter, would be published next year, every year since 2015.

(2,690 posts)I'm still reading A Feast of Crows, so I got a few books left before I'm caught up.

(5,914 posts)It's one of the longer books, and literally nothing of consequence happens in it. There are chapters and chapters of pointless dialogue that goes nowhere and does nothing to advance the plot. All the characters just kind of... move around. Brienne spends the entire book on a wild goose chase.
Feast (for) Crows was the book that had me give up on the series. I could tell that Martin was starting to rest on his laurels and was really phoning it in at that point.

(5,914 posts)You must be a real glutton for punishment. I was furious at myself for having wasted that time reading it even once. (And yes, I read the whole thing, fool that I was).

(23,485 posts)second read on Dragons.
When I go back through, I am going to use the chapter merging of books 4 and 5 which gets the plot lines more like he usually arranges them. This is where having two Kindles will be handy; read book 4 on one and book 5 on the other, following the list order.
You can get the merged chapter list on the Tower of the Hand website.

Which was still awesome, as a side note

(8,973 posts)The cast is getting older so it'd be getting less believable each year.
I guess seasons 6 and 7 weren't too bad. Season 8 was unacceptable.

(23,485 posts)The day I get the email telling me it is available for pre order, I will start my re-read. Every time I read them again I discover some arcane little detail that I missed before.
I seldom re-read books but I have read books 1, 2 & 3 three times each; book 4 twice and book 5 once.
This time when I get to book 4 I plan to use the integrated chapter order which combines the two books to get the POVs in better order.
FYI I was in his blog yesterday and he said he has written hundreds of pages while holed up in Santa Fe.

We all know Daenerys is gonna go cray cray at the end (GRRM has confirmed that I believe) but there are a lot of other subplots in the books that are not addressed in the show.

(12,451 posts)promising book six would be published next year, every year, since 2015 is another matter.
From TFA Writing on his website in 2019, Martin said that if he did not finish the book by 29 July 2020, fans had permission to imprison him in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid.

(23,485 posts)There are things here and there which I wonder about, like WTF happened to The Blackfish?
He swam out of that castle into the river and vanished. I kept expecting him to show up at some crucial point and either off a particularly dangerous person or save the day for one of the other characters.
Hopefully we will find out in book 6.
We saw The Hound in another TV show the other day. I don't remember the name and the only thing I recognize in his IMDB is Game of THrones.

Looked like him but I didn't look it up.
The first episode was silly, don't plan to continue watching.
The Asian girl Bea was pretty good though, in fact acting was solid, but story was ... dumb.
