(61,033 posts)The only times I was there was when I used to ride in the 5-Borough bike tour that started in lower Manhattan and ended crossing the Verrazano Bridge. You'd take the Ferry back.

(52,692 posts)A New Yorker explained it to me: Staten Island is the least populated borough because it's the most inaccessible. The other four boroughs are very well connected to each other with bridges and the MTA subway system, and of course Brooklyn and Queens are both on Long Island so you can use surface streets. But Staten Island...there's no subway service to it, most of the Staten Island Ferry vessels don't take cars, and the only bridge leading into NYC is the Verrazano Narrows which leads to Brooklyn.
