In an MSNBC exclusive, MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber reports on new tape recordings of Sen. Ted Cruz and Fox's Maria Bartiromo. Cruz is caught pushing a fake commission to steal the 2020 election and outlining his plot just four days prior to January 6th, 2021.
Melber breaks down the damaging "Cruz tapes" and how Cruz went from a Trump foe to a planner of 2020 plot for Trump.

Have I already heard these a year ago? I can't tell by any dates revealed in these audios.
Seems like a lot of these are just regurgitations. Some good reporters actually supply the dates of the recordings.

I guess I could have researched somehow when his presentation was made - perhaps in some youtube information panel.
But I'd also prefer that the OP (Rhiannon12866) said "Hear Ted Cruz... on The Beat today"
So many of us don't have access to realtime shows and may only see posts several days/weeks after they appear.

The ones in which Cruz criticized Trump are from the 2016 campaign. You have probably heard or read about them long ago. Melber was playing the old ones from 2016 in order to contrast them with the ones from January of 2021 in order to show how Cruz changed and how loyal he is to Trump now.

(7,744 posts)You know ole Honest Ted wouldn't do something like that, so clearly Antifa must have gotten a recording of Ted's mellifluous pipes and generated all this audio and video through Chat GPT or some other nefarious, Communist plot!

And imagine as we discuss the moral failings of one of 46 or so Senators tied for first place as the worst US Senator serving today, there is, in Texas, a creature more conservative then Cruz oozing out of the maga primordial slime fixin to primary him.

(25,345 posts)for overturning the election besides the attack on the Capitol. We can expect something similar in 2024, but probably less obvious. They've had time to plan and to correct the mistakes of 2020/2021. They still have a year and a half to refine their takeover plans.
As Ari said, we should not underestimate the insurrectionists. They will try again

(25,345 posts)might not be the direction that they take in 2024. I think that they will rely more on the people that they have in Congress and in state governments.
I expect to see some red states openly refusing to certify wins for Democratic candidates and being backed up by Republicans in Congress.
If any military force is involved, it might be as self protection during an attempt to inaugurate their own candidates for Congress and for President. I can easily see the fascists declaring a Biden win invalid and holding their own inauguration ceremony for their candidate.

(245,673 posts)It's as if Pandora's Box was opened - and the anger was unleashed. And my area is no exception, you know that we inexplicably have Stefanik. And I learned that on election night in November, she endorsed TFG for 2024.

(25,345 posts)It's been called the most Republican district in the state.
Nearby, in rural areas outside of Buffalo, there are some RW extremist militias. Several of the J6 insurrectionists who have been arrested are from Erie County and nearby.
The militia hate group, Watchmen, has several connections with Erie County politicians like Carl Paladino. Fortunately, when Paladino ran in the R primaries for this district, he lost.

(245,673 posts)I remember when he ran, he actually held some sort of meetup just down the road from me. He was one bizarre figure. I went to summer camp with girls in a family from his area and his name came up when we had a pre-pandemic reunion. They weren't fans of his, either...
And New York is always regarded as a "blue state," but that's due to the more populated cities downstate. Militias in your area sound scary as hell! But the young girl who was shot and killed for turning around in the wrong driveway was from these parts - her fatal shooting made the headline of the local paper here.

Representative in this district. We're stuck with Langworthy. He's a far right winger, but not as sleazy as Paladino as far as I know.
People outside of NY don't realize how deeply red the rural areas and small towns are. They think of it as a bastion of blue, but, as you said, that's only true in the large cities and a few smaller ones.

(245,673 posts)The worst, of course, is that we're stuck with Stefanik for a Rep. But we've only been NY-21 since 2013 when this area was lumped in with the northernmost part of the state. Previously we were NY-20 and were stuck with Republican John Sweeney, if you remember him, and often the Democrats wouldn't even field a candidate. But then we elected Kirsten Gillibrand in 2006 (with the help of the Clintons, Bill Clinton came here to campaign and I got to hear him speak in person!) and Scott Murphy in 2009 - I liked him a lot, worked on both of his campaigns. And when we became a part of NY-21, we had Bill Owens, a moderate Democrat who retired in 2015 - and the rest is history. *sigh*
However, both Saratoga and Glens Falls both traditionally have Democratic mayors, though most other local offices are Republicans, usually running uncontested. A woman I was friends with on the Scott Murphy campaigns got sick of the lack of Democratic choices, so she ran for a town supervisor seat a few years ago and for State Senate in November. She put a lot into it and had a lot of support, but unfortunately she lost both times.
