(168,084 posts)and if you're like Carl and you actually can see it with your own eyes, it is very disturbing indeed

(168,084 posts)I remember seeing a bumper sticker that said, "If you ain't Texan you ain't shit".....when I actually could talk to a driver sporting that tag I asked him, do you realize you are saying IF YOU ARE TEXAN YOU ARE SHIT? No, he didn't get that....at ALL.

(24,297 posts)But it is ridiculous. Dr. Sagan made excellent points about the humans and the unlikelihood that white, English-speaking aliens would be humanoid. And I agree, Chewbacca deserved a medal, too. But why did they even have a celebration? The rebels won a battle, not the war or there wouldnt be a sequel.
But the science of the film is all wrong. Spaceships are not like fighter jets. Orbital trajectories do not resemble a dogfight between a Sopwith Camel and a Fokker tri-plane. Also, when the spaceships jump to light speed, who cares? The speed of light is far too slow to traverse a galaxy. If your X-Wing was at that speed, it would take over four years to travel from Earth to the nearest star, Alpha Proxima. Further, lightsabers make no sense whatsoever.
Its a cowboy movie thats a lot of fun but its intellectually vapid.
Still, The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the series.
with his point about only white people in the movie.
I am not a fan of Star Wars movies, but the fact is it was a movie-entertainment. It wasnt a documentary including scientific information, it was fiction and fantasy.
I liked Carl Sagan because he was so intelligent, but not as movie reviewer.

(18,439 posts)Raygun and Thatcher along with the finacialization of the economy. Sartre talked about it in 1968 or 9 in lesprit, etc. even Mexican cab drivers know what neoliberalism means along with laissez-faire capitalism. In the U$A capitalism good, communism socialism bad. Yesterday a budding nurse was telling me how even though our healthcare delivery system sucks but we need the capital competitiveness to innovate, I explained European countries and Cuban do very well with development and that much of our pharmaceutical research is done by the NIH paid for by taxpayers and exploited by guess who? Many new treatment developments come from overseas, we are lagging in r&d.
