Susan Collins remains forever unconcerned. One of the Republicans most reliable meme generators isnt fretting over Janet Millss entry into the race for Maines Senate seat.
She has Graham Platner to thank for this moment of Zen. The oyster farmer and Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran turned the governors waltz into the race against Collins into a 2026 Democratic primary battle. Phenomenal crowds have shown upeight months before the electionto hear from one of the most charismatic newcomers to surge into Maine politics in recent memory.
While most Maine Democrats would rather see off Millswho, should she win, would be 79 years old when she takes office in 2027into a comfortable retirement, they are more sanguine than national Democrats are about the development that pits two appealing candidates against each other.
Collinss campaign has downplayed the reconfigured Democratic contest as very chaotic. But excitement isnt chaos. What should concern Collins is that the anger surging in Maine over the dismal state of the United States could launch her into retirement.

(98,321 posts)I just left a once purple now solid orange state and moved to Maine where my vote will count. I plan to be among those booting her sorry ass out of office for good.

(7,195 posts)I definitely have no feel for other states politics. I am unsettled about Mills entering the race, mostly because she has been billed as Schumers choice and I just think he may be a bit out of touch with this moment. Hope it all works out.

(98,321 posts)Mills is the overall favorite. Platner is making waves but I think Mills has it and I'm fine with that.
We have ranked choice voting here so I am excited to participate. I think Mills will take the primary but you never know until it's over.
