'No Kings' protests against Trump planned nationwide, in what the GOP calls 'hate America' rallies

WASHINGTON (AP) — Protesting the direction of the country under President Donald Trump, people will gather Saturday in the nation’s capital and communities across the U.S. for “No Kings” demonstrations — what the president’s Republican Party is calling “Hate America” rallies.

This is the third mass mobilization since Trump’s return to the White House and it is expected to be the largest. It comes against the backdrop of a government shutdown that not only has closed federal programs and services, but is testing the core balance of power as an aggressive executive confronts Congress and the courts in ways that organizers warn is a slide toward American authoritarianism.

Trump himself is away from Washington at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

“They say they’re referring to me as a king. I’m not a king,” Trump said in a Fox News interview airing early Friday, before he departed for a $1 million-per-plate MAGA Inc. super PAC fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago. Protests are expected nearby Saturday.

Lots of people were there. About three times as many as the No Kings protest in June. Got a lot of honks, thumbs-ups and cheers. And of course, an inevitable one-finger salute from the usual gang of truckers, bikers, and slack-bellied suburban dad vehicles.

When someone waves a single finger at me, I always assume he didn't have the brain power to activate the other four.

One guy went up and down the line of protestors, shouting that he was right wing and trying to give people fist-bumps. No one took him up on it, and he would shout "DON'T WANT TO ENGAGE IN DISCOURSE ANYMORE, HUH?" Trying, as they invariably do, and failing, as they invariably do, to act the aggrieved party.

One Trumpster shithead nearly incited a violent confrontation when he drove up and down the overpass in his rolling-coal hillbilly-mobile, blasting black smoke at everybody. There was some yelling and finger-pointing. But no one took the bait, and everyone remained peaceful. Those rolling-coal shit-stains must not breathe the same air as the rest of us.

Anyway: Fuck Trump. No Kings.

There were a couple thousand people there. I marched with my daughter. Lots of costumes, signs, & a lot of encouragement from motorists. Not one middle finger!
It was a beautiful day, sunny, 80 degrees! "Hate America?" Lots of signs saying "We Love America, that's why we're here!" FUCK THE HATERS! We're on the right side of history. They're not.
