Shed a tear for the endangered American male

Shed a tear for the endangered American male

Men are in crisis.

Or so we’re told.

Mostly by men.

Who are men supposed to be? How are they supposed to behave?

It used to be so clear: Get a job in business or manufacturing to earn the money to support the children whose care you delegate to their mother, take out the trash, lift heavy objects, watch sports on television, and never discuss your feelings.

Man stuff.

Now women are doing man-stuff: Running companies such as GM and Northrup Grumman; running Ivy League universities; running for president.

....(snip)....

Trumpist Republicans — now 99% of the party — have fully embraced this pathetic spectacle: the cruelty, the studied stupidity, the embrace of violence, the pitiable “whose is bigger” competition.

....(snip)....

Didn’t God (a man, of course, with a beard) issue women uteruses so they could pop out babies for men to subsequently ignore?

Elon Musk, J.D. Vance, the Kansas City Chiefs’ place kicker, and other leading philosophers of gender are deeply concerned about falling birthrates. ..............(more)

Oh My. I had numerous female bosses in the Navy. Never felt threatened or on my way to extinction. Pretty soon the Girl running the Navy will have a Girl as her boss.

You Go Girls!

Coast Guard Adm. Linda Fagan becomes first woman to lead a U.S. military branch

Updated June 1, 2022 7:44pm EDT

A year after breaking barriers as the first woman to become a four-star admiral in the U.S. Coast Guard, Adm. Linda Fagan made history again on Wednesday by becoming the first woman to assume command of the service and the first woman to lead any of the U.S. armed forces.

In a change of command ceremony in Washington, D.C., attended by President Joe Biden, Fagan relieved Adm. Karl Schultz as commandant of the Coast Guard. Fagan had served as the vice commandant since June 2021. After the change of command, Schultz retired after 39 years of service.

In a speech, Biden praised Fagan for her "outstanding leadership and accomplishment."

"The trailblazing career of Admiral Fagan shows young people entering the services, we mean what we say: There are no doors — no doors — closed to women," Biden told around 2,000 cheering guests at Coast Guard headquarters. "Now we need to keep working to make sure Admiral Fagan may be the first but not the only person. We need to see more women at the highest levels of command in the Coast Guard and across every service in the armed forces."

... something written by a man -- a man who is not fooled by the self-pitying whining of the self-proclaimed "masculine" right. It very well could have been. But no, it was written by a woman, one who sees through the transparently selfish, self-serving pompous "righteousness" of the "masculine" right, and masterfully anoints it with all the snark it deserves, while avoiding the trap of falling into any self-pity herself -- this isn't about her, or him, or them, it's about the whole principle, and especially about the runaway hypocrisy of the self-proclaimed "real men" who think the Taliban doesn't go far enough, and want to go back to the Paleolithic** era.

Too bad none of this will ever get through to the throwbacks (and the "tradwives" and other enablers) who most need to hear it. And especially not the Bible-thumping preachers who proclaim we have forsaken Gaaaawd's Will by treating people like people, and not mere occupants of pre-ordained "traditional" gender/family roles.

*(Keep your glasses Rx updated, people. The alternative is occasionally amusing, but frequently embarrassing.)

**(even the Neolithic was too "woke", apparently)
