Man who put 86-year-old woman into wheelie bin during attack jailedA man who attacked an 86-year-old woman by putting her inside a wheelie bin after the victim had got lost en-route to her home late at night has been sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison.
The court heard that Alex Bailey (30) was experiencing induced psychosis due to his level of intoxication and was under the delusional belief that the victim was a predatory paedophile.
Bailey met the woman in a Dublin suburb around 2am, and CCTV footage from the night shows that he remained in her company for over an hour.
The footage shows Bailey assaulting the woman sporadically for 42 minutes, including knocking her to the ground, putting her head first into a wheelie bin and applying pressure to the lid of the bin.
The bin fell over, and as the woman tries to get out, she was punched in the face and kicked to the body, Garda Paul ODonnell told the court.

(7,744 posts)I don't understand someone attacking someone else, especially someone who is elderly and presumably weaker. The dude is a real piece of work. Irish prisons aren't what they used to be, but I doubt he'll enjoy his time there.

(6,927 posts)for that age group. Hubby's mother was brought back to her daughter's home by the police a few times. She'd decided she needed "to go home" and ended up wandering around the whole area and a bit beyond before the police found her. After a few times of this, there was nothing to do but place her in a nursing home.
I worried for the same with my Mom when I had her living here with me. But Mom never liked to walk anywhere! So, instead, she'd just get on the phone and call 911 and have them take her to the hospital... without letting us know. Imagine my surprise as I walked out of my bedroom one night and into the front room wearing just a long t-shirt, only to find EMS in my front room!

I got a call about my mother from her upstairs tenant. She was outside, 3 a.m., 40 degree temperature. Her house key was in her hand but she didn't know how to use it to get back into her apartment.
About two weeks later, we found an assisted living facility for he.
