Russian Oligarch funneled Cash to "George Santos"
A quick note about this piece. This was from 3 weeks ago. Before the New York Times questioned his whole backstory. So in some ways it's even more interesting in that context. It only deals with where his money was coming from and how it was reflected in his unequivocal support of Russia..

Andrew Intrater, money manager to Russian Viktor Vekselberg, gave $56,100 to committees tied to Rep.-elect George Devolder-Santos, who called Ukraine totalitarian.
The cousin and cash handler for one of Russias most notorious oligarchs poured tens of thousands of dollars into electing a newly minted congressman-elect who called Ukraines government a totalitarian regime.
Republican George Devolder-Santos vanquished Democrat Robert Zimmerman this month in the race for a House seat covering parts of Long Island and the New York City borough of Queensriding a red wave that swept the Empire State this cycle, and washing away two decades of Democratic dominance in the district.
Devolder-Santos had long courted conservative media attention by presenting himself as a walking, living, breathing contradictiona gay Latino millennial born in New York City, who is also a fervent devotee of ex-President Donald Trump.
For much of his professional career, which included a stint as regional director at an alleged Ponzi scheme, the Republican used the name George Devolder. However, as he ventured further into the world of politics, he began to increasingly use the name George Devolder-Santos or simply George Santos...

A sociopath who will do whatever he is told for cash.
And who also makes American democracy look foolish and ridiculous because we elect such damn dolts.

(42,435 posts)How could it swing so extreme right since Biden, unless the ad buy spilled over from the Manhattan districts, but still, ads are not usually an influence in elections. Per Ballotpedia, Santos beat an actual DNC member. Weird.
Zimmerman, a Democratic National Committee member, owned a marketing communications company. Zimmerman said, "In Congress, I'll fight to defend abortion rights, stop gun violence, protect voting rights, address the climate crisis, and make Long Island and Queens more affordable for middle-class families."[2]
Devolder-Santos worked in finance and investing and was the district's Republican nominee in 2020. In a Candidate Connection survey submitted to Ballotpedia, Devolder-Santos said, "I will work to end the inflation crisis ... make New York's Third Congressional District a safer place for everyone ... [and] preserve the American dream for many generations to come."[3]
The 3rd District was redrawn following the 2020 census to encompass the northern portion of Nassau County and parts of Queens. Joe Biden (D) defeated Donald Trump (R) 54% to 45% in the redrawn 3rd District in 2020.
In 2021, Republican candidates won a number of local races in the district, including the defeat of Nassau County's incumbent executive and winning the county's open district attorney position.[4]
As of June 2022, 40% of the district's active voters were registered Democrats, 28% were registered Republicans, and 32% were either registered with some other party or unaffiliated.[5]
Choose your Leaders with wisdom and forethought. To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears. To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunist who control the fool. To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen. To be led by a Liar is to ask to be told lies. To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery. Octavia E Butler

(4,543 posts)that we are witnessing another instance of Republican authoritarian projection. The right wing of the Republican party has long said that there is a left wing conspiracy to make a one world government. It looks to me like the authoritarian oligarchs are actually conspiring to make a one world government.

Sort of a tacit admission here from Hakeem Jefferies that there's not a lot the Dems will be able to do about Santos for now..
