North Carolina sheriff refuses to take down Bible verse in office, says he is 'afraid of burning in hell'
Jordan Mendoza, USA TODAY - Yesterday 6:45 PM
A North Carolina sheriff said he "will not waiver" after the Freedom from Religion Foundation requested he remove a Bible quote from a wall located inside the government office.
The quote I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13." can be seen in numerous photos shared on the Columbus County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
However, the Freedom from Religion Foundation, a national nonprofit group that promotes the separation of church and state, is demanding the quote be taken down, saying it promotes exclusion and violates the First Amendment by "government sponsorship of religious messages."
"The Columbus County Sheriffs Office must serve all citizens equally, whether Christian or non-Christian," foundation president Annie Laurie Gaylor said in a statement on Dec. 14. "A blatantly Christian message in a law enforcement division sends a message of exclusion."

A married North Carolina sheriff is trying to keep his alleged infidelities on the low after accusations hit his department about him allegedly being the father of an unborn child from a female detective he employs.
Sheriff Steadman Jody Greene of the Columbus County Sheriffs Department in Whiteville, North Carolina, has much explaining to do not only to his wife but to the community he serves if these allegations are true.
Community members in the area say Sheriff Greene can put these rumors to rest if he takes a DNA test, something he may be afraid of doing.
Sheriff Greene is accused of impregnating Detective Sam Hickman, who is said to have allegedly been impregnated by Sheriff Greene one time before.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13." Bad translation at best. "do all things"? Like adultery? He did that through christ?
Adultery is probably the least of his sins. How has he treated staff, wife, prisoners, officers?
What kind of standards with regard to "duty of care", such as not kneeling on necks has he set for his officers? Coverups?
If he can't keep an oath to his wife, I doubt he can keep an oath of office.

(9,308 posts)That guy definitely looks like the kind of authoritarian psycho most of my home state would put in the position of sheriff. And, it sounds like he is one as well. No surprise there. And I am betting most of the locals are fine with his presence because he is 'tough on crime' (read: goes after non whites).
