Todd Blanche hit with state bar complaint backed by 101 former judges
Source: MS NOW
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanches principal focus in recent weeks has been lining up support on Capitol Hill ahead of his upcoming Senate confirmation hearings, with a specific focus on winning over GOP skeptics. But Donald Trumps controversial former defense attorney has more troubles than lining up 51 votes.
As this week got underway, Democracy Defenders Fund, Lawyers Defending American Democracy and a group of 101 former federal and state judges filed a complaint against Blanche with the New York State Bar, which included a formal request for an ethics investigation.
The 73-page complaint specifically focused on three areas of alleged misconduct:
Blanches role in orchestrating the creation of a $1.776 billion compensation fund, widely panned as a slush fund, and an IRS audit shield for the president and his family.
Blanches role in abusing the investigative and prosecutorial powers of the Justice Department to target the presidents perceived political enemies, including former FBI Director James Comey.
Blanche supervising the DOJs flawed response to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, including the disclosure of thousands of records containing sensitive victim information.
......Last month, meanwhile, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams ordered Trump to address allegations that he committed fraud on the court after he withdrew his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS. Williams said she was spurred to act in response to a request filed two days earlier by 35 former federal judges calling on her to reopen the case and look into whether the out-of-court settlement was a product of collusion and is itself a fraud on the Court.

(53,991 posts)Only the republicans who are leaving DC seem willing to stand up to this administration, even though they've contributed to his freakshow over and over again.
Meanwhile, I wonder what kind of kompromat this administration has on Todd. He is throwing away his career for this? Though I suppose it probably was never much of a career to begin with.

(26,793 posts)to become Trump's attack dog. He appears to have been eager to willingly assume the role on a belief that he is immune from consequences. I think he believes that he can make himself so indispensable to Trump and to the handlers who will follow Trump's agenda when Trump is gone that he will be protected.

(42,964 posts)Of course, he'll never admit it .... but he must have some deal cooked up with Chump. Todd gets multi-millions and leaves the country on the same day. "So long suckers!"

(183,810 posts)Bondi and now Blanche want to preempt state bar associations from regulating or discipling DOJ attorneys. There is a proposed rule pending in the Code of Federal regulations to accomplish this. See https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143627367 and https://www.democraticunderground.com/100221271195
I do not believe that these efforts are constitutional and enforceable. Blanche may be hoping that these efforts will protect him.
