Trump picks former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton as national intelligence director

President Donald Trump on Thursday said that he is nominating Jay Clayton to become the next permanent director of national intelligence.

Clayton is currently the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and is the former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He will have to be confirmed as DNI by the Senate.

Trump’s announcement comes after controversy over his recent appointment of top federal housing official Bill Pulte to serve as acting DNI, to replace Tulsi Gabbard as she leaves that post.

The House of Representatives earlier Thursday rejected a proposal to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a key national security tool, past Friday, because Democrats refused to back the measure due to Trump’s choice of Pulte.

in favor of Clayton because Pulte was a problem. The incompetence happens at the speed of light with this regime. Makes it a little harder to keep up.

It looks like Pulte will still be a temp in the role until the other guy gets past senate approval. Whoops.

Another instant where the insincere, capricious head of the universe places another tool to replace another insincere temporarily tool without ever the intention of having a responsible person head of an intelligence agency to protect us. If this fool-called the president of the United States is not a foreign asset, no spy ever convicted of this in the United States ever was.
