LONDON (AP) — London police arrested more than 200 people on Saturday during a protest against a ban on the group Palestine Action that the government has labeled a terrorist organization.

Metropolitan Police said they had detained 212 protesters between the ages of 27 and 82 for supporting the group.

Britain’s High Court ruled in February that the government’s decision to outlaw the protest group as a terrorist organization was unlawful, but it kept the ban in place while the government appeals.

Police had warned in advance of the protest organized by the group Defend Our Juries that it would make arrests.

More than 500 people were arrested during a demonstration against the ban on Palestine Action in central London, the Metropolitan Police have said.

The force said it had made the arrests when people showed support for a proscribed organisation. The age of those arrested ranged from 18 to 87, police said.

Hundreds gathered in Trafalgar Square, with many carrying signs in support of the group reading "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action" which have been seen at previous protests organised by the group.

Placards with other slogans were also displayed, with some demonstrators declaring their support for defending the right to protest and displaying their opposition to the US and Israel.

All that police and court time to try and enforce a law that has been declared unlawful.
