A huge petrochemicals plant at Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates was halted after an attack sparked multiple fires, Abu Dhabis government media office said Sunday.
The fires were caused by falling debris from air-defense interception, the office said in a post on X. No injuries were reported.
The UAE and other countries around the Persian Gulf have repeatedly come under attack from Iran since the US-Israeli war on the Islamic Republic began in late February. The sprawling Ruwais industrial zone in the Al Dhafra region suffered an assault last month that shut down Abu Dhabis only oil refinery.
The petrochemicals plant at the complex produces polyethylene and polypropylene and is operated by Borouge Plc, a firm that recently merged with Borealis AG and Nova Chemicals Corp. to create a vast polyolefin company.
