Iran president to release open letter to American people in coming hours -- spokesperson

Source: Times of Israel

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will release an open letter to the American people in the coming hours, his spokesperson Mehdi Tabatabai says.

US President Donald Trump claimed earlier today that Iran’s “new” president wants a ceasefire. Trump didn’t specify who he was referring to and Pezeshkian has been president since 2024. Pezeshkian is also not seen to carry much influence over Iran’s decision-making.

Regardless, Iran’s foreign ministry called Trump’s claim “false.”

Preempting The Dotard's national address by just a couple of hours is a savvy move. RockRaven 2 hrs ago #1
I wouldn't dismiss that Trump never even planned to explain himself to the public today, or any day LiberalLovinLug 2 hrs ago #3

Trump's probably referring to whoever the US has planned to replace Iran's president with as the new president. ChicagoTeamster 8 min ago #8

Undercut whatever he is about to say, without giving him much time to rewrite his speech, but with enough lead time to get your statement reported on before The Dotard starts.

But some intelligence officer, with early knowledge, whispered in his ear about Iran's letter coming today. How dare Iran be able to give their side of the story without him being able to counter and say its all lies etc...

Here are a few points I've paraphrased. There is more at the link below.

It was released as an open letter to Americans

He focuses on the U.S. being a proxy for Israel and asks if that is putting "America first."

States there are distortions and "manufactured narratives."

Claims Iran has never taken the path of "aggression, expansion, colonialism, or domination."

Iran has a history of fighting back against those who have attacked it.

-----------

It's interesting that he draws the line between governments and their citizens. He said they harbor no ill will toward the American people and goes on to say that creating Iran as a danger is the need for trump (he doesn't name him specifically) to manufacture an enemy.

Pretty perceptive on his part, IMO.

More at this link, as well as some pics and videos.

An interesting move. I wonder how much traction it will get in the US with $4 and $5 gasoline.
