As Iran war drags on, food and medicine for millions is stuck in limbo

"DUBAI — The World Food Program says 10,000 tons of food meant for hundreds of thousands of children in Afghanistan has yet to arrive. The World Health Organization has been held up in sending a $6 million shipment of medicine to Gaza. And Save the Children warns that 90 primary health care facilities in Sudan could be left without essential supplies.

As the war in the Middle East hits the one-month mark, it has upended the global economy and caused an acute energy crisis. It has also wrought mayhem in the already battered humanitarian aid sector, which supports hundreds of millions of the world’s most vulnerable people.

.... There are currently 70,000 tons of food delayed on cargo ships, said WFP’s director of supply chain, Corinne Fleischer, who is helping devise new routes to avoid closures and backlogs. If the war continues until June, Fleischer said, WFP estimates that 45 million more people globally will face acute hunger — up from 318 million now...'

Not covered very much in the US news.

https://www.cgdev.org/blog/update-lives-lost-usaid-cuts

"In this blog, we report on an update to our earlier estimates of the potential mortality impacts of the administration’s cuts, based on an addendum to the CEPR chapter published this month (December 2025). A similar approach to our original estimates using financial data to the end of the fiscal year suggests that lives lost based on the decline in outlays (current spending) may be in the range of 500,000 to 1,000,000 and potential lives lost based on the decline in obligations (commitments to future spending) are between 670,000 and 1,600,000."

You get the point?

Haber found a way of making nitrate-based fertilizers that helped push the Green Revolution, making Ehrlich into a kook.

Haber turned into a Nazi.

Food often depends on nitrate-based fertilizer dependent on countries using nitrate fertilizer from the Haber process. (Note that the Nazi concentration death-camp 'pesticide' for killing Jews and others was used for years to kill fungus in US strawberry farms. ... Maybe?)

Blame isn't an obvious thing. It's often, "Who do I want to blame?"

This was evident in 5/22, when Russia screwed with supply chains. Blame Russia? Ukraine? Ukr supporters?)

And now? Iran wants to close X to punish Y (+billions) because A, B attack and F, G, H, J, K 'enable'--who's the 'bad guy? The bomber, the owner (no! no!), the avenger? The sponsor of the bomber? Blame that attenuated I call "belief" and relegate to "your religion".
