WASHINGTON (AP) Two senators who lead a bipartisan antisemitism task force said Friday they want more information from the U.S. Coast Guard about how it will investigate incidents of swastikas, nooses or other hate symbols being displayed in its ranks.
The Coast Guard late Thursday released a new, firmer policy addressing the display of such hate symbols, just hours after it was publicly revealed that an emerging policy would have loosened the language to describe them only as potentially divisive. That had drawn a swift outcry from Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., and other lawmakers.
Rosen and Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., sent a letter on Friday to Adm. Kevin Lunday, the acting commandant of the Coast Guard, who had released the memo late Thursday to make clear that hate symbols and flags are prohibited.
The senators, who said they spoke to Lunday on Thursday, called the new policy a step in the right direction to affirm the Coast Guards commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all its members.

(3,144 posts)Kiss ups mostly interested in their own careers, and mission focused who learn diplomacy and team building. It appears to me Trumps revenge campaign against the Coast Guard and Admiral Fagan has moved some of the former to positions of power.

(3,144 posts)At the time I believe the previous year was about $14B. This would have parked every asset in the USCG, with just a skeleton crew to maintain. Congress fixed it, but the COMDT at the time did not forget. So the next thing Trump tried to do was take away the protections for currently serving LBGTQ+ individuals and the COMDT said publicly that the USCG was going to stand by their people.
So in the current on-going nightmare he decided to dismiss the first female to lead a branch of the military supposedly because she was "woke". Then whoever was in DHS at the time only gave her 3 days to vacate the COMDT's quarters. I'm very disappointed in the leadership there, because they should have stood with her and helped her move.
So, I know it may make me a horrible person, but I am really enjoying watching him fall apart physically and mentally. I can tell by looking at him that he is in constant pain and is medicated beyond belief to compensate. He deserves every little discomfort this earth can dish out to him.

(172,507 posts)am from a CG family...ex-, brothers, nephews...and this story horrified me. The catch is this admin, of course.
And you're not horrible; we've been watching this show for a decade. I am so tired of it.

(3,144 posts)they have around USCG birthday in Grand Haven, MI? It is supposed to be the biggest in the country. I'd like to make that a centerpiece of a sail from Gary, IN to Sandusky, OH someday. I was even thinking of trying to make it a larger event with boats coming from around the Great Lakes and inviting brass for a grand entry. I was going to try to grab the invite for Fagan myself.
