President Donald Trump said Friday night that hes immediately terminating temporary legal protections for Somali migrants living in Minnesota, further targeting a program seeking to limit deportations that his administration has already repeatedly sought to weaken.
Minnesota has the nations largest Somali community. Many fled the long civil war in their east African country and were drawn to the states welcoming social programs.
But how many migrants would be affected by Trumps announcement that he wants to end temporary protective status could be very small. A report produced for Congress in August put the number of Somalis covered by the program at just 705 nationwide..................

Its not surprising that the President has chosen to broadly target an entire community. This is what he does to change the subject.

and why Minnesota Somalis are being targeted
No paywall, no quotas, no "gimme your email first" games, none of that on this MSN-hosted article

. . . Although the majority of Somalis in Minnesota are U.S. citizens or lawful residents and not directly affected by TPS, fear within the community is real. Many Somalis are in a panic and some are even talking about leaving Minnesota for another state, Jabane said.
Sending anyone back to Somalia today is unsafe because al-Shabab remains active, terrorist attacks continue and the [Somali] government today is unable to protect anyone, he said.
. . . Trumps social media post on Friday followed a conservative groups report alleging money is flowing from Minnesota to al-Shabab. Jabane said he believes Trump is singling out Somalis in Minnesota because of ongoing fraud accusations in which Somali businesses have been accused of stealing millions from the state Department of Human Services ((tRump wants it all for himself -progree)).
The state has been the focus of several federal investigations targeting fraud in programs meant to provide emergency housing, food support and autism care. The $250 million Feeding our Future scandal led to charges against more than 70 defendants, most with ties to Somali community-based programs.
Hes targeting [Somalis] because its guilt by association. Hes heard some Somalis have committed fraud and hes attacking, Jabane said. We expect that this arbitrary decision will be met with legal challenges.
It goes on about how the admin can't do this immediately, "meaning the existing expiration date, March 17, is likely the earliest Somalias status can be revoked."

(12,581 posts). . . At the same time, if people have taken anything that i have said out of context in a way thats caused harm, I apologize, and Im sorry for that because thats not my intention at all," O'Hara added. ((sounds really sincere -- geez if you find what I said to be objectionable, it's because you are taking it out of context, you stupid woke douchebags --progree))
. . .
In an interview with WCCO earlier this month, O'Hara was speaking about a deadly Halloween shooting as well as juvenile crime plaguing the city when he made the comment. Alpha News reported that the Dinkytown area, where the shooting took place, has seen a series of crimes including assaults, robberies, shootings and auto thefts.
During the interview, he stated that the young people committing the crimes were not "poor kids from Minneapolis," but rather kids that come from out of town who take "mommy's Mercedes-Benz to Dinkytown, and they don't know where they are." ((not a helluva lot of Somali kids have moms with Mercedes-Benz's --progree))
"Groups of kids, groups of East African kids that are coming from surrounding communities and not just one community, kind of all over the place," O'Hara told WCCO. ((Translation: omg, the East African kids are all over the place now --progree))
It goes on with other examples of how the Somali community has been demonized. Something I can attest to -- I've been reading 3 local news outlets daily for years.
It also includes tRump's latest rant and ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis in Minnesota.
Yes, this is a Fox News article, but over the past months and years, other news outlets have been painting the same picture. I posted to show the bias of the Minneapolis police chief -- and the insincere apology -- as an example of what Somali-Americans here have to deal with.
