Gavin Newsom Rips Key Trump Vibe: Being 'Anti-Woke' Is 'Just Anti-Black'

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) said that if you oppose woke policies like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs that means you are undoubtedly anti-Black, before trashing President Donald Trumps administration, saying it was looking to reverse American racial relations to a pre-1960s world. The prominent Democrat made those provocative claims on the All the Smoke podcast, hosted by ex-NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, on Saturday.
All this anti-woke stuff is just anti-Black, period, full stop, Newsom told the pair early in the episode. All the CRT, ESG, DEI stuff, thats all it is. Its this great purge. Beyond DEI, Newsom was referring to Critical Race Theory and Environmental, Social, and Governance Programs two issues the president has used executive orders to counteract since returning to the White House in January.
Trump also issued several EOs to dismantle DEI within the federal government earlier this year. The Trump Administration, according to one of those EOs, said it was terminating to the maximum extent allowed by law, all DEI, DEIA, and environmental justice offices and positions, earlier this year, as well as positions like Chief Diversity Officer within the federal government.
Newsom said the Trump Administration is looking to move American back decades in terms of how it treats minorities. He pointed to the Supreme Court potentially changing a key section to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as one example Republicans are looking to undo 60 years of racial progress. Theyre literally putting America in reverse, quite literally, to a pre-1960s world, Newsom said. He added it is an unf**king believable moment where Republicans are re-writing history and censoring historical facts.

He is 100% CORRECT.
When Kamala Harris made "We're not going back" one of the central themes and a rallying cry of her campaign, 45 and his white supremacist loons took that on as a "challenge" to do just that.

(127,987 posts)in every single case wasn't a clue. Add anti-woman and anti-LGBTQ and anti-disability and you've got DEI all wrapped up.

(11,943 posts)Just as "woke" expanded to include empathy for other groups that suffered systemic social bigotry, "anti-woke" also expanded up to Musk/Vance levels of disparaging the entire concept of empathy. Right-wing demagogues use this to create and leverage resentment that public policy and some tax money goes to making life better for "them" so it's money and policy that doesn't benefit "us." IMO, a stratified society is present in any viewpoint that can be called "right wing."

(162,361 posts)They are about to throw out the VRA of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 will be next. Then they nullify the 14th Amendment and head on into slavery (although slavery is "legal" supposedly as a "punishment" per the Constitution) - https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxiii
Amendment XIII
Section 1.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
(snip)
They will define "the crime".

(24,581 posts)😬 Arggg!
I have read that each generation (maybe depends on different locations) of white children has grown less racist, or more white kids have learned to be anti-racist.
And it still may be true. What might make it seem to counter this is drumphf's "permissions" to racists has made them louder, more visible, and more confident to unfortunately act on their feelings. So it might seem like there are actuality more than there are. Plus the firings, ruining the VRA, and DEI policies.

(39,162 posts)For you young'uns out there, the landmark 1964 Civils Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act are the 2 reasons why the Southern Democrats left the Democratic Party. LBJ said "Let them go," and the Repukes welcomed them with (mostly) open arms. The Southern Democrats had been a reliable voting bloc since the end of the Civil War, but their racism was just more than our liberal-thinking Democratic party wanted to face anymore. We're still dealing with the repercussions even now, 60 years later.
