Black lawmakers pump brakes on Illinois redistricting

The Illinois Senate Black Caucus issued a public warning Wednesday for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other Democrats pushing redistricting in the state.

The message: The caucus will not support any map proposal that dilutes the Black vote in historically Black districts.

Black state lawmakers huddled this morning with Reps. Danny Davis (D-Ill.) and Jonathan Jackson (D-Ill.) and local Black aldermen to discuss the looming redistricting, per Illinois Senate Black Caucus Chair Willie Preston.

In Michigan the maps were changed that appeared to favor Democrats overall by grouping Black sections of Detroit with whiter suburbs, but one of the consequences was that Detroit, a majority Black city, no longer has any Black representation.

Black voters are a CORE constituency of the Democratic Party. This shouldn't be a difficult concept to grasp for anyone here.

If they aren't being addressed then it's a problem that needs to be addressed and fixed.
