Rand Paul: 'All of these people have been blown up without us knowing their name'

Sen. Rand Paul on Sunday questioned the wisdom and legality of President Donald Trumps policies toward Venezuela and suspected drug dealers coming from its coast.
Speaking on NBCs Meet the Press, the Kentucky Republican again raised concerns about the legality of the Trump administrations strikes on boats that it claims are carrying drug traffickers, as well as the presidents statement that the United States might conduct direct attacks on Venezuelas territory.
When you kill someone, you should know, if youre not at war, not in a declared war, you really need to know someones name at least, Paul said. You have to accuse them of something. You have to present evidence. So all of these people have been blown up without us knowing their name, without any evidence of a crime. He said that given the distance these boats are from the United States, its more likely that if there are indeed drug smugglers, they are bringing them to nearby islands such as Trinidad and Tobago, instead of the U.S.
Paul added: For decades, if not centuries, when you stop people at sea in international waters or in your own waters, you announce that youre going to board the ship and youre looking for contraband, smuggling, or drugs. This happens every day off of Miami. But we know from Coast Guard statistics that about 25 percent of the time the Coast Guard boards a ship there are no drugs. So if our policy now is to blow up every ship we suspect or accuse of drug running, that would be a bizarre world in which 25 percent of the people might be innocent.

(1,804 posts)Liberties. Better than you know: sending masked men into streets to disappear them.
But alas he is all bluster no action. Yes the Democratic party would be a better party for him of he truly valued civil liberties. Alas he likely does not and therefore, will remain a republican.
others would like to do that but then again the stupid voters here in Kentucky would replace him with a nutcase much worse . They are afraid for themselves but never for the people .

I have seen Democrats locally elected to office change to the Republican party in the last few months. They are people who will do anything to hold to power .I don't have your hope that we will see any good coming for a long stretch.

(16,549 posts)And the U.S. Coast Guard or Navy doesn't blow up suspected drug boats "off Miami," whether they're in international or U.S. waters, they stop, board and inspect the vessels for contraband. So, according to U.S. law, 100% of these people are innocent since we have no jurisdiction in the matter. There is no "wisdom or legality" to question here...Trump is a murderous thug.
