KYIV, Ukraine (AP) Ukrainians shared their disappointment Saturday that the U.S. may not provide Kyiv with long-range Tomahawk missiles, while work to repair the damaged power supply to the countrys Zaporizhzhia power plant soothed other concerns surrounding Europes largest nuclear plant.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday, after the U.S. leader signaled that Washington could provide Ukraine with the long-range missiles Kyiv believes will help bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table.
Yet Zelenskyy ultimately left empty-handed an outcome that dismayed, but did not surprise, many in the streets of the Ukrainian capital, who maintained their determination to end Russias 3 1/2-year invasion of their country.
One Ukrainian military serviceman, Roman Vynnychenko, told The Associated Press that he believed the prospect of Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine was a political game. Ukraine wont get those missiles, he said.

(7,896 posts)From this meeting with Trump was 0% from the very beginning. No progress was made in either the phone call between Putin and Trump or the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump. Everybody knew it was a waste of time. The conditions on the ground in Ukraine is not compatible with getting a ceasefire. This is what needs to change. Trump has done nothing to date that changes this balance, so the war is prolonged once again by Trump.
No mention, either, of Zelenskyy's request for additional air-defense systems to shoot down more Russian inbound drones or missiles. My guess is that none are forthcoming. Every move Trump has made regarding this war has only prolonged the war and war-related deaths. That is the legacy Trump has to live with, and history will judge it harshly. The upcoming meeting in Hungary will produce nothing of consequence. The war will grind on.
Interestingly, the missiles Russia is firing into Ukraine every night are the Russian counterpart to the Tomahawk missile that Trump refuses to sell to Ukraine. What's good for the goose depends on what is in the pee tapes.
