NRA sues California over alleged Glock ban

Source: KABC-TV Los Angeles, CA

Wednesday, October 15, 2025 10:57AM

SACRAMENTO (KABC) -- The National Rifle Association has filed a lawsuit against California over the state's ban on Glock-style pistols.

The law, one of several signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom last week, targets handguns that can be converted into automatic weapons.

Gun rights organizations claim the ban violates the Second Amendment.

The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action said AB 1127 is "an attempt to further villainize certain categories of firearms and advance California's gun ban agenda."

It’s saying that a Glock “can be modified” to be fully automatic- which it can.

However, it’s NOT easy. It’s NOT practical. They aren’t designed to be modified this way. I have seen a few videos where an aftermarket trigger installed incorrectly causes a magazine dump and it’s NOT desirable. No one really does it. It’s kind of dumb and a goofy if dangerous novelty that only the dumb dumbs would want. It’s NOT an issue. We made a tempest I a teapot.

It’s a losing issue and it feeds the fire for the opposing team.

Just an FYI - Kamala Harris owns a Glock. Most of the people I know with guns own Glocks.

This is self serving aggrandizement and will backfire.

It IS an issue in the urban areas and because apparently people are able to make 3D printed parts to do the conversions.

You have some nefarious "middle man" operations who are distributing these modified weapons to street gangs.

They are fucking HITTING INNOCENT PEOPLE.

I'm guessing you didn't watch either NEWS video. The below one that you ignored, actually has surveillance video footage of at least 3 people firing these goddam things with who knows how many huddling behind cars and a porch wall for cover. AND between the above incident in July 2025 and the earlier incident Memorial Day Weekend in May 2025, there were 5 who were killed and 18 others who were shot/grazed but survived.

I guess because they are n***ers, they aren't considered "anything". That's the GOP intent.

Did you? He couldn’t control his gun. He was shooting it in the air. It did EXACTLY what I said it would.

Again, one stupid little gangbanger in PA does not constitute a need for banning the most popular handgun in the US.

THAT is the fucking problem and the point of using these switches. They "can't control" a weapon modified with them and they don't give a fuck about that. When they spray bullets "at their target", they hope to get him/her and don't give a shit if anyone else is in the area and becomes collateral damage.

These aren't military sharp-shooters. They are on a mission to get their target. There were at 3 shooters on that porch with weapons in that one video firing at some unknown other shooters across the street. The earlier video was a different incident in a park as hundreds of people were packing up from Memorial Day bbqs, etc., where there were similar "collateral victims" from other shooters.

You must live in the boonies and aren't aware of city life. Because of the efforts under Biden, these types of retaliation shootings have dropped (a lot of intervention counseling is going on). But the damage that just one of these guns can do to innocent bystanders or even people literally in their homes on the sofa or in a bedroom, when a stray bullet pierces the walls and hits them, needs to be underscored.

Any weapon that lets you add these types of mods needs to be banned.

4th suspect arrested in South Philly mass shooting that left 3 dead, 9 hurt

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

ETA to make it easier to "see" (from the above-linked article - and this ain't no damn movie) -

(snip)

Then on Monday, July 7, shortly before 1 a.m., a person attending the party pulled out a gun and fired, possibly in the air, leading other people to pull out guns and fire as well, according to investigators. There are additional resources for people or communities that have endured gun violence in Philadelphia. Further information can be found here.

"There was no argument or no opposing party. We believe that one individual that was amongst their group had fired a gun. We believe it may have been in the air," Vanore said. "That caused at least a dozen other people with firearms to then begin recklessly and really intentionally firing their firearms. I have no idea what all of them were firing at." Police responded to the shooting and found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Three of the victims, Zahir Wylie, 23, Jason Rese, 19, and Azir Harris, 24, died from their injuries. Nine other victims, including a 15-year-old girl, two 17-year-old boys, an 18-year-old man, two 19-year-old men, a 21-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman, and a 24-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds. A tenth victim was injured after falling to the ground while running away.

Investigators ultimately determined that 13 separate guns were fired and they collected over 140 pieces of ballistic evidence.

Said part can be installed in a matter of minutes, and printed for a few dollars.

Said Glock's outfitted with such devices have been soaring in popularity in recent years, as evidenced by police reports and Shot Spotter technology:

https://www.thetrace.org/2024/09/glock-switch-lawsuits-pistol-design/

https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/kare11-extras/dangers-of-the-controversial-glock-switch-as-told-by-its-inventor/89-9fd2745b-4616-4f8e-b993-3a7249d10f85

Just because the created weapon does mag dumps instead of controlled bursts doesn't mean it's not dangerous or illegal. And "dumb and goofy" is HIGHLY appealing to the same subset of people who join gangs and commit crimes.

And FYI, I'm an avid gun owner and shooter myself. I was on a Facebook page for owners of TX-22 handguns, until it was inundated recently with videos and for sale posts of guys using a new forced-reset-trigger part that costs all of $5 each.

Plus clones like the PSA dagger (compatible with all Glock 3 parts),
They are on generation 5. Even if they force a redesign- it’s futile.

I believe the Second Amendment Foundation filed suit the day the law was signed

This could be an interesting court battle. The law focuses on an identifiable operational piece ( the crusiform trigger bar) rather than the usual vague 'this gun is bad' reasoning. I could see the possibility of the court upholding the law. I do not know enough about Glocks to determine if there is a retroactive modification that could make them compliant.

Glocks are mentioned in the Second Amendment.

Something about 'happiness is a warm gun', if I remember correctly.

Accuracy doesn't matter, the number of rounds you can get off in 5 seconds - now THAT impresses the gang bros!

Moses had a pair of Glocks, I think.

But you know how it works, after the gunfire stops and the cameras stop recording, the bodies get up, high five each other, and call it a Good Day at work.

Always amazed how the guys you kill in any one of a hundred video games just seem to disappear.
Kill, look away, look again, no body, no blood.

. . . think I just broke my sarcasm generator today with this post . . .

no matte rif it's a car, vaccuum cleaner, garedn hose, it's still a defect that allows illegal modifications. And all Glock has to do is change the design. So what's the problem, unless the BRA is trying to justify its existence again.
