CBS producers grappling with 'mass confusion' from new Trump-backed boss: report

Producers at CBS News told Variety on Monday that they are grappling with "conflicting orders" and "mass confusion" because of a memo sent by the new organization's editor in chief, Bari Weiss.
Last week, Weiss sent CBS News staffers a memo requesting that they explain "how they spend their time" to her, their thoughts about CBS News generally, and how Weiss could align with the editorial staff "on achieving a shared vision for CBS News." Union counsel representing the CBS News workers told employees last week not to respond.
The confusion appears to have bled over as staffers said on Monday that Weiss told them to "file notes" to her, even though the union told them not to.
A person familiar with the newsroom told Variety that the orders created "mass confusion" among the staff.

(76,262 posts)A sign of a bad manager who wants to bully and scare employees.
And undermines direct supervisors.
Such emails to the CEO are meaningless.
Direct supervisors are the ones who know how employees are functioning on the job.

(31 posts)Ah, the "pretend collaboration" phase that's standard in all these rightwing liquidation clean-outs.
Can you imagine ANY CEO coming into a new company and just asking around, "hey folks, how can I talk you into the a vision for this company that's completely counter to how you've always run, completely counter to standard industry principles and ethics, and is likely to damage your own professional reputation? Oh, and if anyone can tell me what the entry level employees do at this company because I have no experience at ALL in what we do here, that would also be great!"
As a (small-time) CEO myself, I'll tell you: most CEOs are coached to do the exact opposite, because otherwise that's how you lose all your best people during the transition. But that seems likely to be the point.

And that will be one more network destroyed.

John Oliver on his show did a great analysis of some of the articles published by her company, "Free Press".
She has no background as a news journalist.
Some of her articles were not heavily researched.
She claimed that conservative voices were stifled on NY Times, when they publish columns by Bret Stephens and others.
Will she suppress any pieces that are critical of Donald Trump.

(68,323 posts)A whiny narcissistic twit with a chip on her shoulder who thinks the world is out to get her because she's "conservative." She'll happily accept a lot of money to destroy things she doesn't begin to understand.
Also she checks the Jewish gay woman boxes so TrumpCo can smirk and chortle "see how unbiased we are?!"

(532 posts)She should have to prove why she deserves that job since she is not a journalist and has less experience than anyone already working for CBS news. She is some kind of gimmick hire by her billionaire boss.
