Hamas still holds 28 Israeli hostages. They were all murdered by their captors.

Psalm 137
1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion.
2 There on the poplars we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, Sing us one of the songs of Zion!
4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.
7 Remember, LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. Tear it down, they cried, tear it down to its foundations!
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

(127 posts)The Edomites, who wanted to tear Jerusalem down, eventually converted to Judaism. One of them, Antipater, became king of Judea, and his son Herod built a magnificent temple in Jerusalem and became a central figure in the New Testament.
Not sure if this will make you more or less pessimistic.

(127 posts)Hamas murdered over70 of them in two years. Thats almost one in three

(37,567 posts)In 2 years, the IDF couldn't find them, and they weren't killed by combat operations when essentially every building in Gaza was destroyed. Hamas didn't murder these 20, either. They didn't starve to death.
I am curious as to the technicalities of where and how they were held, too, but I don't ever expect to learn.
Oh, and Welcome to DU.

(127 posts)They were abducted by force. There is plenty of evidence that they suffered extreme abuse by their captors. For two years, whether they live or die was entirely in the hands of their captors. In no circumstance did this make them safe or secure.
Hamas caused their deaths and abuse in captivity. I am hard pressed to associate any of this with safety or security.

(10,494 posts)Many groups say Israel holds 500 to 700 kids 12 to 17. However, every day Israel arrests 10 to 15 kids in West Bank.
Glad the hostages are home but the videos online of IDF dragging little 8 yr old kids away is horrific. One video has them dragging a little girl because she picked up a knife off the ground.

(7,204 posts)But rescuing them would end the Gaza siege and force him to face the music of domestic crimes. So he didn't bother. He's getting most of his demands from Hamas, but probably thought they would not go that far. Well, they did. Now, I think he's looking for a way to sabotage all this.
