China warns US of countermeasures if Trump doesn't walk back 100% tariff threat

Hong Kong - Beijing has vowed countermeasures against Washington if US President Donald Trump makes good on his threat to impose new 100% tariffs on Chinese imports.

Trump’s latest threat came after China unleashed a raft of export restrictions on rare earth minerals last week. The escalating tensions threaten to derail months of progress in trade talks.

“Resorting to threats of high tariffs is not the right way to engage with China,” a Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said Sunday, in Beijing’s first comments on the threat. “If the US persists in acting unilaterally, China will resolutely take corresponding measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,” the spokesperson added. “Our position on a tariff war remains consistent – we do not want one, but we are not afraid of one.”

The rapid escalation of trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies has sunk stocks, rattling investors and industries by igniting fears of a repeat of the tit-for-tat tariff battle in spring, when levies on Chinese and American imports soared to around 145% and 120% respectively.

2. Trump will back down, you can bank on it. He can only intimidate those who won't stand up to him.

The republicans in congress and the media are perfect examples of this.

Jack up tariffs and the market plunges. Change your mind and up it goes. Sell and buy accordingly.

The soy bean farmers are drawing a blank. They can’t figure out why (who) caused their soybean sales failure this year. Gosh how’d it happen? But by gosh ole trump will ride in to bale them out. Or not.

I'm not even sure they could process the checks with the government shut down, to be honest. Somebody's got to take those applications and press the ENTER key on the transactions. Who's going to do it, that skunk Lutnick?

This is like the fifteenth Jack Off Clubs he's pulled. Does he have any ideas other than tariffs, tariffs, tariffs? I think not. He may as well just make up any number and call it a percentage at this point.

Although I've known that Facebook allows all kinds of knock-off adverts from China, I got caught again. I had a bad week where I figured that this year Halloween should be a quick and easy and I wouldn't spend the usual time I did with decorations. So I bought four items from four different adverts early in September. They quite literally were shipped on a slow boat from China, and when I received them, they were knock-offs of the worst kind. Instead of trashing them, I'm putting them up since they reflect the true horror we're living under.

And btw, not only did the Chinese mercs snatch my pocketbook by charging me a price that was well above the junk I received, but I also paid high shipping costs. Not proud of it. But, I have to admit that I enjoyed a good laugh at my expense. Quite literally.
