Maine Gov. Janet Mills expected to jump into crucial Senate race next week, sources say

Maine Gov. Janet Mills is expected to launch a campaign for Senate on Tuesday, two Democratic sources familiar with her plans confirmed to CBS News.

A Democrat, Mills is vying to unseat longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins in one of the most closely watched contests of next year's midterm elections. Mills' planned campaign launch was first reported by Axios.

Mills, who is term-limited, has served as governor of Maine since 2019, after working as the state's attorney general. She drew national attention earlier this year when she verbally argued with President Trump at a White House event after he pressed Maine to comply with his administration's push to block transgender girls and women from competing in female sports. "See you in court," Mills said to Mr. Trump.

Mills was a top recruit for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. She will enter an expanding primary field that includes three other Democratic contenders — among them Graham Platner, an oyster farmer who has emerged as a rising progressive and anti-establishment voice.

If elected, Mills will be 78 when she takes office - the same age Trump is today (and just look at that bastard.)

Despite her history, Mills is too old to be an effective Senator. She will be a junior senator until she dies. Is she going to run again 6-years later when she is 82? (Would you want to elect an 82-year old to serve until she is 90? Remember Diane Feinstein's last Senate years when she approached age 90? Remember how frustrated the Party was over her mental confusions...?)

The top of the Party - in fact, BOTH Parties - are looking like the Soviet Politburo of the 1980's. One-quarter into the 21st Century is not the time to elect someone from the first half of the 20th.

Mills is running for vanity. She should not be elected to satisfy that vanity.

She would be a good senator while she's still able to function -- but how long would that last?
There's a lot of excitement around Graham Platner. I know he's a little too left for a lot of Mainers, but he's got the Bernie Sanders charisma working for him.

for a lot of reasons I like Mills, but she should definitely go quietly, sit on a bunch of boards or hang out with her grandkids. we have bright younger dems who will give us years of great representation and perspective. we don't need someone born in the 1940's as we go forward.
